Artists of all skill levels are invited to gather and capture the vibrant colors and serene beauty of this picturesque small town, creating art inspired by its stunning surroundings. The event will culminate at the Winters Art and Wine Festival on Main Street, May 3rd, 2025, where the vibrant art will be showcased alongside local wines and community celebration.

Fresh Paint!
We are excited to announce a 3-day Paint Out this year to replace the Winters Plein Air Festival! The Winters Plein Air Festival was a cherished annual celebration of outdoor painting, founded in 2006 by Briggs & Co Gallery (2005-2012). It was open to artists of all levels and brought together talented creators from across the country to capture the breathtaking beauty of Winters and the Capay Valley region. Visitors could enjoy watching artists at work and explore the vibrant downtown of Winters, California.
Although we no longer have a gallery to host the traditional full 30-day show following the week of painting, we are thrilled to offer a new opportunity for artists to gather, paint, and showcase their work. This year’s Paint Out will be part of the new Art and Wine Festival in downtown Winters, and we look forward to celebrating art and creativity in a fresh and exciting way.

THURSDAY MAY 1 - SATURDAY MAY 3, 2025
Join us for an inspiring 3-day Plein Air Paint Out Event that culminates with a prestigious final exhibition at the Winters Art & Wine Festival on May 3rd from 11am-4pm. This celebrated annual event is hosted by the 1st Street Studio Art Gallery and offers artists an exceptional opportunity to capture the scenic beauty of Winters.
Artist Information:
  • All skill levels are welcome to apply - from emerging talents to established professionals
  • Participants will have access to prime painting locations throughout the Winters and Capay Valley region
  • Artists retain 60% of sales from exhibited works, with 40% supporting future community art events
  • Space is limited to ensure a quality experience for all participants
  • No Application deadline
Selected artists will receive a welcome packet with detailed event information, a map of suggested painting locations, and an invitation to the artists' reception on Friday evening.
Winters Paint Out 2025 Schedule
Thursday, May 1st
  • 9am-5pm: Check-in at Park Winters, canvases stamped
  • Paint all day at Park Winters grounds
  • 5pm-6:30pm: Artist meetup at Berryessa Brewing
Friday, May 2nd
9am-6pm: Paint anywhere within 20-mile radius of town
Saturday, May 3rd
  • 10am: Bring 1-2 paintings to Winters Art & Wine Festival
  • 2pm-3pm: Awards announcement
  • 4pm: Artists collect paintings
Artist Registration (opens April 1st)
Registration for the Winters Paint Out is now open. Artists can sign up online or by calling the festival organizers. The registration fee is $25.
Eligibility and Requirements
  • Artists must be 18 years or older
  • All media are welcome, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and mixed media
  • Artwork must be created en plein air (outdoors) during the festival dates

The deadline for early registration is April 15, 2025. In person entry allowed thru May 9th additional fee of $10.

  • Downtown Winters, CA - Charming small-town streets, historic buildings, and quaint cafes offer unique urban settings to capture on canvas.
  • Lake Solano- The serene lake and surrounding natural beauty make for breathtaking waterside scenes to paint en plein air.
  • Yolo County - Rolling farmlands, orchards, and pastoral vistas throughout Yolo County offer a diverse array of picturesque plein air locations.
  • Capay Valley - Picturesque rolling hills, vineyards, and oak-studded landscapes provide endless inspiration for plein air artists.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Winters, the historic Winters Hotel offers charming accommodations for visitors to the Winters Paint Out. With its classic California Mission-style architecture and cozy, well-appointed rooms, the hotel provides a comfortable and convenient home base for exploring the local scenery and attractions.
